Role of building material manufacturers, technology providers crucial to incorporate innovative sustainable, cost-effective solutions: Asia Regional Director, GGGI

NEW DELHI, 25 February 2025: Dr. Malle Fofana, Asia Regional Director and Head of Programs, Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), during the inaugural session shared “The role of building material manufacturers and technology providers is crucial for incorporating innovative sustainable, and cost-effective solutions. This training session aimed to enhance the capacity of manufacturers and technology providers with technical knowledge, market insights, and best practices on Low Carbon Buildings, that will support in strengthening public-private partnerships to mobilize financing pathways in the country.”
Ms. Preeti Singh, Additional Director General, the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) shared, "For India to achieve its Net-Zero target by 2070, an action plan must include the widespread adoption of Net-Zero Energy Buildings (NZEBs), increased use of green-certified materials, and stronger regulations and incentives to promote sustainability. Additionally, workforce training programs must be enhanced to ensure that industry professionals are equipped with the skills needed for green construction, the ALCBT project in this regard is a promising initiative".
Mr. Soumya P. Garnaik, Country Representative – India, Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), "Given that over 65 % of the buildings are expected to be built in the coming years, and global transitioning towards low carbon building materials will play an important role. This will also facilitate the material manufacturers to cope up with the CBAM requirements of the EU. The ALCBT project is an attempt to create the necessary technical know-how among the building material manufacturers. This capacity-building program will help support the relevant stakeholders to adopt low-carbon technical tools and practices.
